Cyber Alert Public Service Raises Alarm on Vulnerable Websites

Loyal readers of the Pacific Coast Informer will know that we've been helping warn the public about network security issues since long before "ID theft" and "corporate data privacy breaches" became household words. Given the growth of cyber threats, sometimes it feels a bit like shouting into a hurricane. Still, the struggle for a safer Internet where we can all do business and find the information we need moves forward, and now we've got a new way to help Internet users stay safe.

PCIS has launched a new public service, Devfense Cyber Alert. The free service will help users know which websites have been flagged as vulnerable to hackers and may harm Internet surfers' computers or be used to violate their privacy. This information is published on Twitter at www.twitter.com/devfense_alert (Twitter username @devfense_alert).

Industry analysts suggest that online identity theft cost the USA about $48 billion in 2008 alone. As well, those affected by ID theft through malware has jumped by 600% compared with last year, according to one antivirus vendor. Web threats are up, so the Devfense Cyber Alert aims to help computer users avoid danger on the Internet.

We are using multiple ways to publicize which sites have been flagged for security issues, to warn the ordinary Internet user. As you've probably noticed, we're still publishing lists of these vulnerable websites in our bi-weekly Cyber Security Informer newsletter. This public service aims to help users take evasive action and create awareness about the widespread problem.

As part of the public service, Internet users are invited to contact PCIS if they discover websites infected with malware or showing vulnerabilities. We will facilitate communication between the Internet user and the website owner to help provide some explanation about the security issues involved.

Look forward to news and opinions about the latest tech trends, online and network security, identity management and other important issues in the tech sector from the Pacific Coast Informer.

Impervious Web Security Partnership Launches

PCIS has a new partnership with security vendor Imperva. As a reseller of Imperva’s SecureSphere Enterprise products, we can now offer a holistic solution to protect against data breaches.

The SecureSphere Data Security Suite delivers a complete lifecycle for Web application and database security in a single platform. By securing transactions from the end user through the Web application to the database, the SecureSphere Data Security Suite offers complete data security and visibility.

Web application code fixes and reviews may not always be a practical or effective solution for some business' present circumstances. Deployment and configuration of a Securesphere WAF delivers automated protection against application attacks and drop-in deployment with no changes to existing applications or network. Organizations can begin to protects web applications and sensitive data against sophisticated attacks such as SQL injection, Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) and brute force attacks, stops online identity theft, and prevents data leaks from applications.
